Very well made. Crimps solidly every time, ratchets as it crimps so you can adjust your grip without fouling the crimp and performs very well.

Great Product - But you have to keep it clean

This thing is built like a tank. Designed for pros but even though I'm just a homeowner, I love good tools. I've had one for years and have terminated tons of RJ-45s for myself, friends, and neighbors. Never a problem -- until recently. Suddenly I started to get bad wire map tests -- particularly on pins 1 and 6. I used a backup crimper to finish the job. I got home and shined a bright light into the crimping die. I didn't see anything wrong. I then took the unit apart (removed the two locking rings on the handle pins, removed the pins, then move things around until the crimp die came out -- also removed the cutter blade -- required for the solution, below). Only then did I see that dirt had gotten between the teeth of the crimper that prevented the teeth of the crimper from engaging correctly. I stripped a short piece of wire out of a CAT 5e cable, removed the insulation from one end and carefully scraped between the teeth. Then I put everything back together. I built a short cable and tested it. Problem solved. One of the issues of having something that lasts, that you don't toss, is it has to be tended to. There are other pass-through crimpers that are disposable that work well. I have a Klein VDV226-107 that works very well. I use it in tight spaces (the only problem is the color coding for 568A and 568B printed on the crimper are from the top side of the connector and I always think of wire-order from the bottom of the connector. This might confuse anyone who is just getting started.) For this Platinum crimper I also recommend getting extra cutters that trim the wires that pass-through. The original blade will get dull and the blade has to be replaced regularly.
