Evoluent VerticalMouse 4 Overview

The Evoluent VerticalMouse 4: Wireless Right Hand Mouse avoids forearm twisting and supports your hand in an upright neutral posture. Many users, including medical doctors, ergonomists and physical therapists, have said the VerticalMouse provides superior comfort.

Neutral Posture and Superior Comfort
The shape is thoughtfully sculpted for uncompromised comfort and easy-to-reach programmable buttons. No finger contortions are needed to operate the buttons.

Improved Thumb Rest
The thumb rest has been reshaped to provide even more comfort over earlier versions.

Now Two Thumb Buttons
A new bottom thumb button provides greatly extended functionality when used with the included driver.

Extended Lip Prevents Rubbing
An extra wide lip along the bottom edge prevents the last finger from rubbing the desk.

Adjustable Laser Sensor
Pointer speed controls on the side allow convenient adjustment without even releasing your grip from the mouse.

Pointer Speed Indicators
Top mounted LEDs show through the chrome thumb rest to indicate selected pointer speed including extra low, low, medium, and high.

Mini Receiver
The tiny 2.4 GHz receiver avoids being knocked off the side of a notebook computer.

Powerful and Intuitive Driver
Evoluent Mouse Manager for Windows provides extensive but easy to use functionality for 6 buttons through a simple and intuitive interface.

Approved Mouse of University of California at Berkeley
The Evoluent VerticalMouse 2 (an earlier model identical in concept) was evaluated in 2007 by a team at the health services clinic in UC Berkeley, including medical doctors, physical therapists, ergonomists, and administrators. It was found to be comfortable, easily adapted to, and promote a neutral wrist and forearm posture. It was the only vertical type mouse approved for staff use within UC Berkeley and for sale in the campus store at that time.

The Pain Is Gone!

Once I got this mouse, all the pain in my right arm and wrist went completely away. I had the bluetooth version of this first, but it kept loosing the connection through out the day, so I tried this wifi version and it works flawlessly. Just be aware that the software that comes with it doesn't work on the new Mac operating systems, but you can get USB Overdrive that will allow you to set up all the preferences for the buttons.

Ergonomic and comfortable, but needs driver updates

In terms of comfort and ergonomic design, this vertical mouse is absolutely outstanding. However I was quite disappointed that the drivers for Mac OS are so out of date that it basically only functions as a two button mouse, instead of the six customizable buttons that it ought to have. It's probably fine for Windows, but for a Mac using anything later than OS 10.13, forget about it.

This is a fantastic mouse if your hand starts to go numb using a regular mouse. I've got one at work, and it solves the problem, so I got one for home. I used to have the joystick kind, but it was awkward and clunky. This one is much easier to use!

Looks weird but is ergonomically functional! Gf has been using it for a couple of weeks and her carpal tunnel issues are not bothering her.

On my 2nd one; 1st lasted over 8 years. (Also have a right-handed one.) Got my first one around the same time as getting a Kinesis Freestyle keyboard, and this mouse took longer to acclimate to. It's not just that it's vertical mouse, it's a different shape. Usable initially, but comfortable in a few days ... so much so, that I had to get one for my work computer. Not convinced that it would be helpful? Hold out your mouse arm, straight away from your body, and rotate it till your hand is in position to use a normal mouse. Now rotate that same arm so the thumb is in the highest position of any digit. Which position is more comfortable? Extra buttons: Top button is for left clicks, middle for right clicks, bottom button is for double left clicks. Thumb controls forward & reverse web page navigation. And the scroll wheel displays the desktop. Thought these extra buttons were gimmicks, but now I cannot live without them.

If you have wrist or arm pain from excessive computer/mouse work, I strongly suggest you give this a try. I've been using a version of this exact mouse for 15 years now. It really works. It can't magically un-do long-term damage, but it can ease your pain and stop the terrible ergonomics a regular/traditional mouse causes. If you really want to go all-the-way, add a Goldtouch split keyboard as well, for the ultimate ergonomic computer set up. (the keyboard only applies if you can touch-type), but mouse will work for anyone. It's worth the investment, I promise.

I have intermittent wrist soreness, and using this vertical mouse is very helpful. I love being able to program the buttons for the functions I use most frequently. Great produce.
