SureFire Maximus Overview

The Maximus Rechargeable Variable-Output LED Headlamp from Surefire is a rechargeable variable-output LED headlamp with enough power to illuminate your entire campsite. Yet, if that's too much, you can dial it down for closer work to 1 lumen, or any level in between. This preserves your vision in the dark, and extends the battery's runtime.

Delivering an amazing 1,000 total lumens of light, the large knurled dial permits output control with one hand--even if it's gloved or numb from the cold. One hand can also aim the light right where you want it since the light assembly rotates up and down 90 degrees.

The SureFire Maximus utilizes a high-performance LED and a custom reflector to produce a wide and diffused beam, optimized for your natural field of vision, but which also provides impressive reach at its max 1,000 lumen setting. It is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can provide years of use, and chargers for both wall-type AC outlets and 12V DC vehicle accessory outlets are included. A fuel gauge on the headlamp gives battery charge status, and a long-running SOS beacon provides an extra margin of safety when needed.

Built from tough, lightweight magnesium, the SureFire Maximus thrives in harsh conditions. It's also comfortable to wear, thanks to its no-chafe fine-weave headband and moisture-wicking Breathe-O-Prene forehead pad. Maximus Rechargeable Headlamp, even during long stretches of continuous use, will not get worn out-nor wear you out.

SureFire Maximus Reviews

All the light you need

I mow Golf courses in the wee hours before sunrise. This headlamp lets me see what I am doing and its easy to adjust the brightness and angle to account for fog and to avoid blinding my coworkers.

Best headlamp I own but also specialized

1. The dimmable feature is the best out there. I do notice some step function jumps in brightness at times as opposed to a completely smooth gradual change. 2. The beam angle is nice and wide with very even lighting across the entire field of view. 3. It’s best for a utility light, camping light, hiking light, dog walking, etc 4. It’s too heavy and bulky to run with. Don’t buy this for a jogging light. Wear a light weight lamp and maybe carry a handheld if you need to bright spot ahead for wildlife or anything else of concern. 5. The best enhancement would be a beam focus. One day the tech will allow for a lighter weight version with beam focus with the same bombproof construction and that will be the last headlamp I own

Best Head Lamp Ever

Expensive, but worth it. This is the best head lamp I've ever owned. No battery pack on the back of the head band means that I can lay under a vehicle to work on it without the battery pack pressing on my head from underneath. If there is any shortcoming, it is the short battery life when cranking up the lumens.

The SureFire Maximus is solidly made. Variable light is very useful. The light is very bright at max. Downsides include 1. It is a little heavy 2. the headlamp can get hot at maximum on your forehead. Expensive, but well crafted. I would buy again.

One of the best headlamp I ever bought.

This headlamp is expensive. But, Its a Rolls Royce of headlamps I should say. It's worth every penny I spent. First of all I like it because it is Made in USA. Also it has a features Wich other headlamps in the market are missing. You can adjust the brightness from 1lumens to 1000 lumens. I was anxiously waiting for my delivery like 6 year old child for his first toy or game oder by mail by parents. Finally when i got my lamp I was so exited to own it. I am going to use this Made in USA headlamp for years to come. & I think I will pass on to my son so he can use it for years.

Here is why I have loved the Maximus for 10 years so far

I just bought the new 1000 lumen model here after losing my old 500 lumen one. I was heartbroken! But, with the brightness improvement I was planning on buying this model anyhow. It is 50% brighter than the old model (to double the visible light the lumens need to be increased 4 times). 1000 lumens is an incredible amount of light to mount on your head. Otherwise this model is just like my old one that I loved. You will find this headlamp so tough and well engineered. It's built like a tank and is really professional grade compared to most headlamps that are real flimsy and cheap. I use this for night biking and hiking, caving (it lights up big cave chambers but can be dialed way down for crawls through a tight squeeze), getting under my truck, even vacuuming the carpet because this light is bright enough to reveal hidden dirt that ceiling lights somehow conceal. The light quality is exceptional because of the optics. It produces a clean and even beam regardless of brightness level. Perhaps my favorite feature is the brightness adjustment knob. Unlike most headlamps I've seen with a few preset brightness settings that restrict you to those presets, this one has a smooth adjustment knob for basically infinite adjustability, which is so handy to precisely set the brightness for the specific task you are doing. It is cliché to say it, but really this would be the last headlamp you'll need to buy.

Some Good, But Too Much Bad at this Price

I regrettably returned this product despite loving some aspects. The Good: - USA made instead of Chinese - Super high quality feeling metal housing - Awesome simple on/off with adjustable brightness dial instead of complicated button push patterns such as competitors. This is perfect! - Decent brightness but not spectacular The Bad: - Cool blueish white light instead of neutral white - Heavy compared to competitors - Unbalanced front heavy with too much weight too far from head - Could not get headlamp to stay in-place as it constantly slid down my forehead. I don't know how anyone lives with this other than by mounting on a helmet. - No top strap included despite design provisions to include one, and none available from SureFire. This is super weird and lame especially at over double the price of any competitor, all of which have one. - Permanently built-in battery instead of 18650 removable battery while inevitably means unit will need to be returned to SureFire for replacement. Also no ability to carry extra batteries for extended use on camping trips, etc. Overall so much potential but the positives just cannot override the serious issues.

question

What type batteries ?
Asked by: Anonymous
This headlamp uses a built in rechargeable battery that is NOT user replaceable. The good news is that Surefire's guarantee covers the battery as well as the light itself. If the battery ever stops taking a charge, their warranty covers replacing it.
