after piling up cables that sometimes work and sometimes don't, I finally decided to buy this tester. It works great! Not just a pass/fail, but which wire is connected and which one isn't. Or shows when there's a cross wire or short. Every audio tech should have one of these. I wish I had bought it years ago!!

I purchased the Hosa CBT-500 a few weeks ago and had tested my existing cable I had one XLR cable that one solder connection had become disconnected . Using the cable tester is pretty straight forward. There 8 testing positions if it is XLR there are 3 position and MIDI has 5 positions to test.When I received he tester there was a loose bolt floating around in the packaging and something rattling inside the cable tester. I took it upon myself to open the tester and found nut that matched the bolt. I put back together. I notified B&H Photo that HOSA needs to inspect products before distributing to retailers. I have highest regard for HOSA Products.I am thinking that this was an isolated incident.

The Hosa Technology CBT-500 Audio Cable Tester only specifies the ability to test 75 ohm BNC cables and appears incompatible with 50 ohm BNC.

Does this product test combination wires ? example rca to 1/4, or xlr to 1/2 inch ?

We have one of these at my work, it'll test any combination. Just yesterday I was checking a mixer for a blown xlr lead... Long story short I used an rca cable to feed to the mixer and an xlr on the receiving end and it tested each pin, actually two grounded to eachother because the Rca isn't a balanced cable... Long story short it will check combination cables. Thinking of getting one for myself because it's a wicked solid investment and built extremely well especially for the price. Cheers!
