Evoluent VerticalMouse 4 Overview

The VerticalMouse 4 (Wired Left-Hand) from Evoluent offers a new twist on the classic computer mouse: one that keeps your hand vertically in a "handshake" position while you're pointing, clicking and scrolling. That means your arm sits neutrally without twisting, which is intended to afford extra ergonomic comfort during extended sessions.

The shape of the mouse is sculpted for superior ergonomics, and the programmable buttons are easy to reach. Pointer speed controls on the side allow convenient adjustment of the laser sensor without releasing your hold on the mouse. There's also a thumb rest, which has been reshaped from earlier versions to offer added comfort. Top-mounted LEDs show through the chrome thumb rest to indicate one of the four selectable pointer speeds (extra low, low, medium and high).

Another feature that sets this mouse apart from the crowd is its lighted Evoluent logo, which turns off when the mouse is in sleep mode to save battery power on your computer. An extra-wide lip along the bottom edge prevents your last finger from rubbing the desk. Provided along with the mouse is a driver; Evoluent Mouse Manager for Windows let you program six buttons and extend the functionality of the bottom thumb button. This mouse has been tested to work with Windows, Mac and Linux based computers. Simply connect it using an available USB port.

Looks weird but is ergonomically functional! Gf has been using it for a couple of weeks and her carpal tunnel issues are not bothering her.

From the people who invented the vertical mouse this is one fantastic device. I have all the buttons programed to do exactly what I want. The two thumb buttons are truly useful. As always B&H handled my order quickly and it arrived in perfect condition.

Great but they don't last

I have owned four of these and from an ergonomic standpoint - they are fantastic - they really give relief to CTS and wrist fatigue. However, as a mouse - they are terrible. I've never had one last more than a year. They all eventually become skippy and intermittent and stop working. It is so frustrating to have a mouse that feels so good to use, but is a terrible at being just a mouse. But I've ordered my last one - I'll have to find another solution.

Difficult to adjust to, but indispensable after that

On my 2nd one; 1st lasted over 8 years. (Also have a right-handed one.) Got my first one around the same time as getting a Kinesis Freestyle keyboard, and this mouse took longer to acclimate to. It's not just that it's vertical mouse, it's a different shape. Usable initially, but comfortable in a few days ... so much so, that I had to get one for my work computer. Not convinced that it would be helpful? Hold out your mouse arm, straight away from your body, and rotate it till your hand is in position to use a normal mouse. Now rotate that same arm so the thumb is in the highest position of any digit. Which position is more comfortable? Extra buttons: Top button is for left clicks, middle for right clicks, bottom button is for double left clicks. Thumb controls forward & reverse web page navigation. And the scroll wheel displays the desktop. Thought these extra buttons were gimmicks, but now I cannot live without them.

Super comfortable & truly ergonomic

This is the second Evoluent mouse I have owned. They are the most comfortable truly ergonomic mouse on the market. I have tried several. As an architect I use a lot of design softwares that require a high level of mouse control, not unlike gaming. This mouse saved me from Carpal Tunnel syndrome after a string of long deadlines. It's expensive, but just as worth it as a truly comfortable desk chair. I highly recommend this for daily use.

Comfy

I love the shape and feel of this mouse. If only this thing had a better sensor and a lighter weight, I would use it for gaming. The chrome finish on the thumb concave and the mouse buttons means they get dirty and feel icky very quickly. But at the end of the day, all the cons are negated by the amazing shape. There is nothing with a shape as comfortable as this on the market.

No more wrist pain

I've been using the Evoluent VerticalMouse for several years. I've used both the wireless and wired (USB) versions. They have completely solved my wrist pain problem coming from conventional mouse use. I'd give this product 5 stars if they were more reliable. The scroll wheels begin to skip after about a year of use. For me, it's worth it.
