Just to be clear, can I hook this charger up to my external battery (that I use to charge my cell phone) using a USB connection and charge the battery?
Michael, I purchased this charger to charge my camera batteries while traveling. I didn't like dragging the manufacturers charger that had about 4' of chord. (Where as this charger plugs directly into the outlet). It works wonderfully for this purpose. I haven't tried to charge anything through its USB port, but I imagine it would also do a fine job charging your external battery.

As far as I can tell. I have left batteries charging overnight with no issues.

Yes, it is red until charged, and then turns green when charged.

Can you remove the plate to install a different plate for charging a different type of battery?
I believe so, but I haven't done it myself. Instead, I purchased two complete charges with different plates so that I could charge batteries for different cameras at the same time.
