Yes, it should accept standard CFL bulbs. The bulbs that ship with the unit extend forward more than standard CFL bulbs do and they are provide color control.

The spiral fluorescent lamps and the optional Impact 18 Diffuser Sock (B&H # IMDSBD18) are available as separate accessory items that may be purchased for use with the Impact VA903 5-Lamp Fluorescent Cool Light. However, I do not see the 18.5 Reflector or the Internal Diffusion Panel included with the light fixture listed as optional purchasable accessories, and I see no other user-serviceable parts for this item. I have use the diffusion cap as well. It can give you the same effect as a diffused beauty dish. Since I bought this light I've used it for people and product, video and stills. I would highly recommend it. If there were any downside at all it would be the portability. But for the price I can live with that.

Oh without a doubt, these lights have been so helpful to us that we have bought multiple sets. Obviously, the top heaviness of the lamp head will tip if you don't have the stand legs spread apart enough but we haven't had any issues with our setup!! Definitely recommend this lighting set especially for the price!
