Impact EX-100A Reviews

Great Value!

You can't beat the value this light kit offers! I needed to take some headshot pictures for our office. Didn't want to spend a ton of money and this kit did the trick. Very easy to set up and does exactly what I need. The only feedback I have is that the picture is a bit misleading. I thought the reflector arm attached to the stand while the light was also also attached (making a T shape). I didn't realize that you had to choose between the light or the reflector. You will still need another stand to use the arm for the reflector.

solid light for the price!

light works well and is pretty simple to use, id recommend getting a wireless transmitter bc the sync cord is kinda weird. also be aware of which kit you're getting, i was not aware that i wasnt getting a stand so i had to go buy one separately

Great for the price!

One of the best priced kits out there especially for studio lighting beginners like me. The only issue I had was that the softbox was hard to set up and the sync cable did not connect to my Sony so I had to spend an additional $100 on a transmitter/receiver kit

I was expecting more

Right off the bat the softbox broke at the corners when I tried to get the rods in place to set it up. Also, the rods are extremely hard to get on the softbox. It’s took me almost an hour with directions. The manual directions weren’t helpful my advice is to find a YouTube video to help you.

Not the most powerful, but this is a great addition to a small home studio. Soft box is quick and easy to set up and attach.

Extension arm

I brought the kit to replace one of my EX-100A strobe units. The reflectors and extension mount have come in rather handy with doing portrait work. Great for use with foam core for reflective fill lighting.

Great small studio light

I have three of these now, and all have performed flawlessly over the past 15 years or so. Not the most powerful strobe you can buy, but for a small home studio, they are perfect. Unlike some reviewers, I found the soft box to be easy to assemble, but the connection to the strobe could be a little more secure.

This monolight uses an Elinchrom EL mount, so you can use the Impact 16" Beauty Dish Reflector, BH # IMBD16 which can accept an Elinchrom EL mount. https://bhpho.to/3o9lZoM

My flash tube broke. Is that covered in the one year warranty ?
Asked by: Scott E.
Unfortunately, the warranty for this monolight only covers defects in the unit as a whole. It does not cover lamps.

How do I connect this to my Sony A7III? The cord it came with is not compatible with my camera. So I got a 3.5m jack to 3.5m jack cable but it’s still not working.

I looked online at the manual. Looks like there is no pc connection (not computer connection). You might need to buy a hot shoe adapter that has that. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/767442-REG/Vello_HSA_PSU_Universal_Hot_Shoe_Adapter.html

question

Will this strobe work with 3rd party modifiers, or only the supplied softboxes?
Asked by: Anonymous
That model strobe uses the Elinchrom mount also called EX. There are a few different manufactures that make modifiers with that mount, Elinchrom, Impact and Interfit. Note to be careful when picking it out that it is the correct mount. Impact and Interfit make different mounts not just EX.

question

Have I been using the shoe mount flash correctly? I've been trying to answer the folks who helped. Me and computers sometimes conflict. So here goes. I was using a Nissin Di622 to trip these. Regardless of the settings on the monolight the output was the same. Today we changed location from a classroom with 12' ceilings to the church hall with a 20' ceiling. Same results. I tried several settings on the Nissin, even manual output but the results were the same. Then I changed to Vivitar 285HV, 1/2 power to trip the monolights and all worked just as it should. The monolighgt oupt was able to vary using the dial on the back of the monolight. Results were perfect. I must have been doing something wrong with the Nissin and I will limit myself to using the 385HV for tripping the lights. Thanks to all who helped and replied. Very much appreciate the help.Loucian
Asked by: LUCIAN C.
The reason you were having the issue us that the Nissin flash has a pre-flash like all TTL flashes and that fools the monolights. The Vivitar flash you have is not TTL so does not have a pre-flash.
