Manfrotto EzyBalance Overview

The Manfrotto EzyBalance Gray Card is a revolutionary tool ideal for adjusting color balance and exposure settings in both digital and film format cameras, as well as DV cams. The EzyBalance gives accurate color rendition to cameras by providing a pure white surface upon which the camera can perform a white balance.

The reverse side of the EzyBalance provides an 18% gray card surface suitable for adjusting the camera to get the most accurate exposure setting. Conventional methods of exposure control consist of using large gray cumbersome cardboard that is easily stained and over time becomes dog-eared, posing the risk of taking incorrect exposure readings. By design, the EzyBalance folds to just a third of its 12" opened round size making it infinitely more convenient and allowing it to fit into a small bag or pocket.

Suitable for all environments.
High quality, durable wipe-clean surface material, sewn to a sprung steel rim using triple row stitch technology.

Manfrotto EzyBalance Reviews

Damaged

The white side came damaged and has black streaks on it. I bought it for a gray card so other reviews of this did not bother me. The Gray side is a bit darker than my other gray cards. I bought one of these in 2018 and did not have these problems.

Just like other gray card

A bit expensive for the same job other Gray cards do.

Quality Control is not Good

I ordered the 20 version, but sent it back because the white side was smudged up. I thought they sent back the same Card because the replaced card was also smudged up on the white side. I made sure to take a photo and returned the item for replacement. Again the white side had darken blotches and imperfections on it. I guess I'll keep it since Manfrotto can't do any better. Surprising since I have had the 12 model for years and it appears in better shape

Love the size and ease of use.

Great for On-The-Go Shooting/Quality issue

Small enough to throw into any sized pack, it expands to a manageable (slightly less than 12 x 12) size. The target + mark on the gray card size is peeling off and will eventually come off completely. It should have been printed on the card--I've only used it 4 times.

Very satisfied with the operation of this balance card, since I get better results in the color of the photos and videos

Smudged and torn

My 20" gray/white card arrived with several dark smudges on the white side and a small tear on both sides, although it wasn't torn through the entire card. This is a little frustrating BUT it hasn't affected the performance of the card. It got my exposure and white balance spot on despite the physical imperfections. Still, I'm going to inquire about exchanging it due to those issues. Overall, this is a great tool to keep handy. The size is perfect for situations where you would need a larger target to balance your exposure and white balance and it stores in a case small enough to carry in a camera bag. It's a little pricey for a gray cart but it does what it's supposed to do very well. This would be a 5 star review if it wasn't for a smudges and tear.

Does just what I needed

This does just what I needed. My assistant pops it open, I do a shot of the grey and then the white side, and pop it back into it's pouch. Anyone whose used the round pop up reflectors will have no problem with that. I've always liked to have a grey card in every lighting change for consistency. Sure sometimes you might deviate, but it's nice to have a base consistent point to start from.

If trying to set the white balance from a flash, does this show a similar value to the flash temp (like around 5600K)?
Asked by: Steve
The Manfrotto EzyBalance Gray Card is color neutral. If trying to get the correct white balance on a camera when using flash, this can give you the correct reading for a custom white balance. The reading itself is done in the camera or in software during post processing.

What is the purpose of autofocus reference lines on this card? If focusing is unnecessary to set the exposure, why are the reference lines printed on the card? Some gray cards do have autofocus reference lines, while others to do not. I can't understand this.
Asked by: Anthony
The autofocus lines are mainly to compose while your taking a reading. It makes more sense for a model to hold the target and to be in focus.

question

18% gray or 50%? I received my order today and next to a wallet size gray card I have, the difference is dramatic. 180+ reviews say it works fine, but I'm still interested to know if it's 18% or if I possibly received a different model.
Asked by: Joseph B.
The description says 18%. Mine works like a charm. ??

Where is the Lastolite EZYBalance made (country of manufacture)?

I believe Manfrotto (Italy) actually owns the Lastolite brand, however the EZY Balance card is made in the UK.

question

I just received the Lastolite 20'' collapsible grey card. Is it normal that this thing stays warped and doesn't become completely flat once taken out of the pouch? If so, without a flat surface, you can't get an accurate reading so this thing is useless...
Asked by: Claude
It's normal as it is collapsible, so when you unwrap, it cannot be completely flat. You may notice one thing the camera struggles to focus on EZYBalance Grey/White Card. The main purpose of white balance can be achieved whether the card is flat or not, just click on the card and shoot.

question

When should I use the grey side or the white side of a white balance card?
Asked by: Anonymous
This depends a lot on how you use the card. I use it to shoot SLog3 video and only use the white side to set my exposure on the waveform monitor of 70-75%. This renders about the right exposure for Slog3. Never use the gray side. Just additional note: often use the white side fill reflector.
