Calibrite ColorChecker Gray Balance Reviews

Nice but Pricey

The ColorChecker Gray Balance card does what it is designed to do, but with some minor issues. The first is price: $60 for an 11.5 x 8 piece of cardboard, albeit a color calibrated piece of cardboard, is hard to justify. The price might be easier to justify if two shortcomings were addressed: (1) There is no built-in stand to hold the card upright. Even a fold-out piece like on the back of cheap picture frames would be welcome; and (2) the card comes in a paper sleeve which does not protect the card from bending. For $60 I would expect a much sturdier case. I also have the ColorChecker Classic and Xrite ColorChecker Passport, so it's clear that price has not stopped me from purchasing the Calibrite products in order to ensure color and exposure accuracy, but a little more in return for the price would be nice.

I primarily shoot in the studio and I use both this grey balance card and SG. Works great.

What material is this card made of? Is it waterproof/water resistant? Can it be cleaned?
Asked by: Peter
The chassis that holds the color chips is plastic card stock and the color chips are matte lacquer paint on photo paper. It is not waterproof and is not designed to be cleaned. Do not touch the color chips and NEVER allow liquids to contact the color chips...they will be permanently stained.
