RucPac Extreme Overview

Keep your hands warm and dry even in harsh conditions with these size large RucPac Extreme Tech Gloves.

When you're out in the cold, conserve heat by using the outer mitten over-layer, and then when you need to work or perform any task that requires dexterity, just fold the mitten and thumb back to expose your fingers. Magnets hold the folded-back finger and thumb covers out of the way to ensure they don't interfere with your work.

Its wind- and water-resistant mitten outer shell offers protection from the elements with insulation to keep the cold out. The palm has rubberized grips to keep your gear safe and secure in your hand with an adjustable wrist strap. You can wear the Extreme Tech Gloves by themselves, or for additional warmth and protection you can layer them over RucPac's Professional Tech Gloves.

RucPac Extreme Reviews

Comfy and good to about -5C

I have huge hands and the large size fits. There is no room for a liner, but that's OK. I'm really happy this this. These are comfortable, a bit bulky and warm enough for several hours at about -5C (~22F), but that seems to be the limit. For reference I have warm hands, so your mileage may vary. The over covers are easy to flip over the fingers and thumb. I'm OK with the magnet closures, though I'm not convinced this is a better method than Velcro. Overall, these are good. It's a difficult problem to solve and these do it.

Nice warm gloves

Great for any activity where you need your fingers quickly. The only con, is that the thumb cover doesn't stay closed. Otherwise, I would have given 5 stars.

A welcome respite

It's nice to be able to keep hands warm and still have relatively good control of my camera when the temperatures dip into the 20's.

Warm and comfortable

These gloves are easy to put on with or without glove liners and are comfortable to wear. I really like the magnetic buttons to hold the flaps (thumb and fingers) back. the magnets work so much easier than the velcro-type buttons, which seem to hang on too well at times. Only had a chance to use them in very cool foggy weather but they seem to work well and keep my hands warm.

Poor thumb design

I live in North Dakota. It gets really cold here, as in double digit subzero temperatures in December and January. Sometimes, shooting in those conditions is necessary, so I was very interested in trying these gloves. I bought the proper size, (large) and while they are not the warmest hand covers I've worn, they are reasonably warm overall even when its zero outside. The magnets used to keep them open are nice enough, but the thumb design fails completely. It's actually difficult to gauge how warm the gloves really are because the thumb covers constantly pull off the thumbs with even moderate movement, exposing the thumbs to the cold, and completely defeating the purpose of the gloves. And without removing the finger and thumb cover from the other hand, it is difficult at worst, and awkward at best, to try to pull the thumb covers back over the thumbs. I can think of multiple ways for RucPac to solve this problem, including a small patch of velcro, an inside magnet, or perhaps the simplest, a longer thumb cover. I really wanted these to work, because it is a great concept. Unfortunately, this version is poorly executed. I hope that RucPac reads these reviews, and redesigns their gloves. Great potential, but not ready to be used by professionals in truly cold conditions.

The neck dickey is really warm and fits snug. The finger mittens are warm and the non-slip grips are nice. The hat is just a hat.

Good Gloves But

I purchased a pair of these gloves for my wife, they were size small. We both like photography so thought these would work well when we go a walks. I purchased a pair for myself, a size medium. We have been using them for about one month and enjoyed not taking off our gloves to take pictures with our cellphones or my wife has a DSLR camera. They are not perfect gloves, but better then take your gloves off and using your bare hands. My wife has always said her thumbs are getting cold and my were not. Today we noticed the medium gloves have velco on the thumbs to hold the thumb covers in place and the size small glove does not have velco. I think it might be a factory defect? Not sure.

I love mittens with flip covers so I can use my fingers for photography or birdwatching. These mittens have thumb flaps that didn't stay put. I ended up sewing them in place. I

Do they include the inside liner, or are the fingers exposed when flipped back?
Asked by: Syed
The RucPac Extreme Tech Gloves do not come with a liner, but may be used with one. By default, if used without a liner, your fingers will be exposed when the over-mitten is flipped back.

These tend to run a tad bit large to account for using a liner.
