Record from and manage up to 8 cameras with the black Axis Communications S3008 Recorder with 2TB HDD. The S3008 is designed for use with Axis network cameras that record at resolutions up to 4K UHD. It features a 2TB preinstalled HDD, a total recording rate of up to 160 Mb/s, support for one-way audio recording with compatible cameras, eight PoE ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and a USB 3.0 port. Good luck getting your footage downloaded from the device

I switched to Axis for recording wildlife and it has been a nightmare. Months of footage wasted because it is has a Variable Frame Rate recording (each clip is a different frame rate). Tech support was very slow but advised on how to somewhat turn that VFR off, but it was not enough. Audio is still recorded at a different speed than the video. No combination of settings worked and even after using Handbrake to repair all the footage afterwards the problems still persisted on many clips. To solve the problem of having hundreds of out-of-sync videos, I switched to constant recording instead of motion activated just to salvage SOME usable footage. This creates a 150gb file each day, which is expected, but the method to get that file off is BRUTALLY slow. I need to sit there for 7 hours with a computer connected directly to the network port to download the footage from a week.... ONE BY ONE. The USB port on the side is the same speed and after trying to download the footage to the USB only 2 of the files fully downloaded and the other 2 were corrupt, seeming to have failed part way through. This is on 2 different new Sandisk USB flash drives. (other flash drives wont even be recognized) In conclusion, after spending thousands on this setup (recorder and camera) and a hundred hours troubleshooting EVERYTHING it's time to cut my losses and ditch this thing. If you use it for monitoring and just pulling a small clip once in a while for fun it'll work fine for you, in fact it'll work just as well as the $100 recorder you can get from many IP security camera manufacturers.

The main negative is that it only works with Axis cameras. But if you purchase the NVR with this expectation, it's not really a problem. It's also a bit pricey, but has 5 year warranty and excellent product support. Easily installs available cameras and functions well with nice features. The mobile app for remote viewing also performs very well.

Does this only work with Axis cameras? I don't expect guarantees that X camera with ONVIF profile Y will work, just whether or not it is explicitly limited to only Axis products.

Axis Secure Remote Access is a technology that allows a smartphone or PC client to access Axis network cameras when the client and the cameras are located on different local networks. Axis Secure Remote Access significantly simplifies the installation of remote access to surveillance systems. Once enabled, it’s automatically configured and removes the need for manual port-forwarding and router configuration. AXIS S3008 Recorder together with AXIS Companion VMS connects and power up to eight cameras and can be up and running with just a few clicks. AXIS Companion is an easy to use video management software. It offers video management and integrates with Axis cameras, intercoms and audio products.
