LG HBS-SL5 Reviews

Disappointed in the LG decline

I have used LG headphones for many years and loved their function and quality. My last set was amazing and lasted me for about 5 years. I wanted the same one but sadly they were discontinued so I ended up trying this set which has been lackluster in comparison. I bought it 2 years ago and the battery life slowly abated over time until after the first year I would only get 4-5 hours playtime for podcasts. The distance I can walk from my phone seems to be half that of my last pair which is sad - I generally have issues after 8-10 feet. The phone calls after that first year also gave me issues with frequent disconnecting. And now (only 2 years in) they have completed died won't take a charge or turn on. It almost feels like forced obsolescence since their older product were too good. I would strong recommend not purchasing these headphones.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought these a few months ago there not like the 840 I had they don't have bass and they don't stay up as long the 840 lasted 3 days with out charge these like day no matter how much I use ..the quick charge okay I guess since you don't have alot of power but I've had a few lg headsets that's all I purchased unless I find something better ..2022 lg. Newer and better these sl5 don't have the redial option that's makes them suck too..you have to fail from the phone ..I wish I could return them

Serious design flaw

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my 4th LG headset so I know what they're supposed to do. These keep randomly disconnecting from my phone. No other headsets (including my old LG which works great but are physically broken) are doing this, so it's the headset not the phone. Happens variet of locations so no interference. I thought it was a defective headset so I returned the first one and bought a replacement and it has the exact same issue, so it's a design flaw. I have to either power off then power back on the headset, or turn off then turn back on Bluetooth on my phone -- either one works, but I should not have to do either. There is no notification that they've been disconnected - I simply go to make or answer a call, and they're not connected. As I said, these are my 4th LG headsets so I know what I should expect from LG, but I am very deeply disappointed and wondering if I now need to turn my loyalty over to a different brand if the quality is deteriorating like this.

Frustrating controls, doesn't last

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] One earbud got really quiet after about 6 months and the other one stopped working after about 7 months. Also, they randomly disconnect and reconnect while I am wearing them. The controls are frustrating because multi-use buttons suck. Wanna go back 10 seconds on that podcast? Hold the volume button down for 3 seconds. Nope, not long enough, you just turned up the volume a little. Do you want to pause or activate your e-assistant of choice or turn the stupid thing off? They all use the same button! Expected better from the brand and for the price.

Worst head phones I ever owned. Look elsewhere.

Sound is at a very low level. Will not adjust any higher. Very muffled sound. Really is horrible. Could no even use it for conference calls as the poor sound quality. Get something else, trust me. I have others that are older and cheaper that sound better.

I purchased this headset today and I am a bit iffy about them, my callers hear my background more than they hear my voice.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this headset as clarity is great. One side stopped working so I contacted LG & was sent shipping label for easy repair return. I got it back in 3 days! Great CS service!!!

Microphone works better. Tonal Quality sucks.

I’ve owned LG headsets for 6-7 years now. The HBS-810 are still the best even though they’re 3 or 4 generations old. The microphone quality for phone calls was good and they sounded great for music. Almost like that is what they were designed for, shocking. The HBS-835 and HBS-830 were useless for phone calls but the JBL tuning on the 835’s was awesome. Now we have the SL5’s, which actually have a decent microphone for phone calls again but the tonal audio quality is absolutely terrible. The tonal balance has a peak in the 80-400hz area that makes everything sound dark and muffled. I don’t know who the acoustic tuners at Meridian are, but they botched this product in a big way. Don’t buy these, period…
