FLYCAM Redking Overview

By balancing the pan, tilt, and roll axes around a central handle, the FLYCAM Redking allows you to achieve smooth-moving cinematic shots as you follow your subject. It works to stabilize and keep the camera horizontally balanced as you walk, run, climb stairs, and otherwise move about. The Redking supports up to 15 lb loads, so in most cases you can mount your camera along with a matte box, mic, or other accessories you may need for the shot.

The base on the bottom features 16 thin weight plates that can be used or removed to find the ideal counterbalance for your camera load, in order to ensure optimal stabilization. The base can also be expanded in width to further help with counterbalance. And the center post is height-adjustable telescopically, from 21 to 32", for vertical counterbalance.

The Redking features a quick release camera mounting platform and comes with a quick release camera plate so you can attach/remove your camera efficiently. The camera plate is Manfrotto 501 compatible, so you can also efficiently move your camera between the stabilizer and most tripods or other camera supports.

Note:
The foam handle design may vary according to availability.

FLYCAM Redking Reviews

Easy to use

Once you take the time to balance the camera, it's easy to use. I spent weeks researching on what stabilizer I wanted. This was the best in various price ranges.

Smooth as butter

This thing really is as good as a Glidecam twice its price. I was coming from a smaller carbon-fiber stabilizer, so this is noticeably heavier, but it's so quick and easy to balance and stabilizes so well. I'll just have to hit the gym more often. It's worth it.

Good for the price

Like the other review, every rubber bumper fell off in short order. I had to super-glue them back on. Other than that, everything is solid, fairly comfortable and quiet.

exactly as advertised

I use the product in conjunction with galaxy vest and galaxy arm which has the counter weights to balance my cameras on top of my rig. I have shopped at B&H for over 15 years now. I used to believe that good products came out of that store, however I strongly believe that I have a bad apple. The slider adjustment that allows you to make adjustments up and down came out and I believe it went back in after some maneuvering around. This is imperative as it is responsible for holding up your rig when you set it down and while in use also. I am highly disappointed and concerned that it is a flaw in the manufacture craftsmanship that is an error on their part. I am hoping they can replace through warranty, as its only lasted, - about 6 months with limited use. I would give a better rating and change my testimony with a five star if they will replace the item free of charge. And take back the defective only back at their expense. Thank you.

Very well designed. It has a feel of quality and does what it says it will do. It certainly takes some getting used to, but I am very happy with the results so far. There is a dramatic difference going from handheld to this stabilizer.

it's pretty good but takes practice

it does exactly what it's supposed to and it's built REALLY well. SOme people don;t like the center posting having the twist knob because they usually lose grip and let the pole slide causing the whole assembly to go off balance but this one is stout and well made. You don't even have to full tighten it down and stays right where you put it. This thing s is VERY heavy though Especially with gear so work those biceps and shoulder muscles or get a vest for it. balancing it takes some serious practice so don't expect to get it perfectly right in your first few uses. If you have never used one before but can figure stuff out relatively well you'll be able to get balanced enough until you can really nail it down.

Are the makers of Flycam Redking or anyone else going to make a tripod head as an accessory for the flycam to be used interchangeable with a tripod using the same tripod plate? That appears to be a given. It would sure make the Flycam more versatile, provided it was a good tripod head.
Asked by: David
The head of the stabilizer accepts a Manfrotto 501. So any tripod that accepts a 501 could be used to quickly switch a camera between this rig and a tripod.

Is this flycam made only for use with DSLRs or do you guys think I would have success using a glide cam like this Redking with a Canon XA11 video camera? The XA11 already has pretty good stabilization but I want really smooth hand held shots.

This has 7.5 lb load capacity. It should work well with the Canon XA11.

Is it possible the makers of Flycam Redking will be making a tripod head as an accessory so the camera can be used interchangeable with the Flycam and a tripod using the same tripod plate? That seems to be a given?
Asked by: David
The head of this stabilizer accepts a Manfotto 501. So any tripod that also accepts a 501 could be used to quickly switch a camera between the rig and a tripod. I personally use camera with a Tila cage that accepts a tilta dovetail. I mounted a 501 to the bottom of two Tilta dovetail rails. One stays on the rig the other stays on a tripod. This is not necessarily required to make a tripod compatible with this rig. I found that without the added dovetail, I did not have enough front-to-back movement to properly balance my camera.
