works great for my Shape shoulder rig. It's pretty large and heavy, I just wish it was a bit lighter and more compact.

Cheap Plastic

Got this for two new Sony FX9 cameras with a Tilta Cage Shoulder Rig Adapter and after only a few connections, the cheap plastic on the rear of the plate has already started to scratch and wear down. Disappointing to say the least. Have been utilizing Panasonic adapter plates for years and they are rock solid and durable. Going to send back and order the Sony VCT plate. $$$$

This unit is robust, all metal and latches onto my 8sinn VCT rig securely. It does it's job well. Highly recommended!

I was in the market for the Sony VCT plate originally after working with it first hand on a shoot not too long ago. Of course, when I'm ready to purchase, it foes out of stock and on temporary backorder. But a good friend of mine that's also a 1st AC was like get the Axler VCT 14! Looking into it, and his setup, I kept hearing about how reliable it was despite it having a lower cost than its competition. I've seen REDs Arris, and other more expensive setups using these so I figured if it's good enough for cameras over $30K, then it'll do beyond fine for my setup. And so far so good. I really like the design and the stiffness. Not the kind of stiffness that you have to fight to get your camera on and off, but the kind that really keeps your rig in place for a long, demanding work day. I got two for easy switching between tripod and dolly and I haven't looked back. It's really good. It's not all metal though. There's a little piece in the rear around the back round clip (I don't know the technical name for it) that's definitely not metal. But it's all good and hasn't caused any problems and I don't see it causing problem in the future. Definitely recommend.

Yes it can. It requires the URSA shoulder mount kit. The G2 ships with the shoulder mount kit.

Does this take the place of the quick release ...

Does this take the place of the quick release plate on a Sachtler head or does the plate mount to the bottom of this? Not real sure how this works I just know the Came-tv shoulder rig doesn't mount well to the quick release plate and I'm hoping this would solve the problem.

Can I use this with the BM URSA Broadcast G2, without the BMD shoulder, directly into the BM camera?

Yes, The Axler Quick Release VCT-Style Plate is compatible with the Black Magic URSA shoulder mount kit. When tripod mounting you will need the Axler quick release to attach the camera to a tripod with the shoulder kit installed.
