The 0.5" x 45 yd Pro Spike Fluorescent Cloth Gaffers Tape is made of a matte cotton cloth backing that has a synthetic rubber-based adhesive, which has a lasting strength and conforms to irregular surfaces. The 11-mil tape unwinds smoothly from the core for application, and tears easily by hand. The fluorescent orange color is highly visible, and can be seen from afar in under less than adequate lighting. Therefore, the tape can be applied to stage floors for positioning of actors, for marking a direction in a stairwell, identifying equipment cases, or simply holding things together. In addition, the abrasion and weather-resistant tape removes easily and leaves no residue on the surface.

What is the best cloth based tape that is heat resistant and suitable for taping gels to reflectors and grids without being susceptible to the adhesive melting? Is spike tape any different to regular gaffer-type tape on this regard? Is there a gaffers tape that is of higher quality that meets this requirement in a narrow width, 0.5 " or less? Thanks!!

Pro Spike is a 1/2" width version of our Pro Gaff tape. Pro Gaff has a service temperature of up to about 150°F - 180°F short term use. We always recommend Pro® JLAR II Gel Repair when repairing lighting gels and scrollers where temperature resistance and film stability are necessary. In order to better answer your question on a cloth based tape we would need to know the long term temperature resistance and the amount of time/duration the tape will be applied for.
