E-Image GH03 Fluid Head with Flat Base

The E-Image GH03 Fluid Head with Flat Base supports cameras and accessories weighing up to 11 pounds. The GH03 head features an Easy Lock Baseplate system that combines the balance adjustment of a sliding baseplate with the ease of a quick release system. It provides a fixed counterbalance setting that helps the fluid head support loads up to 11 pounds and won't force you to fight the head when working with lightweight camera systems.

The variable tilt drag allows you to adjust the fluid head to suit your shooting style or the needs of the shot. The head features a built in 1/4"-20 accessory socket for available monitor support arms or other accessory items and independent pan and tilt locks. The head incorporates a bubble level, panhandle rosettes on the left and right side of the head (one panhandle is included), and a 1/4"-20 threaded accessory socket for use with optional accessories.

The fluid head features a flat base with a 3/8"-16 threaded mounting hole. This allows you to mount it in tripod legs with a 3/8"-16 threaded mounting screw, or 1/4"-20 screw with optional adapter. You can also mount optional jib arms or camera sliders that support flat base heads.
You can mount this head to optional half-ball system to gain ball-leveling capabilities, and then quickly switch back to the flat base for situations requiring that mount.
The Easy Lock baseplate provides the balance adjustment range associated with a sliding balance plate but combines the ease of a quick release, as you can pop the camera (on the Easy Lock plate) into the top of the fluid head without having to support the camera while lining up the plate with the head. Easy to pop in, it stays secure until you release it, and you maintain the sliding balance adjustments.
The Easy Lock camera plate features a guided sled with a retractable locating pin and supports both 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 camera tie-down screws (included).

E-Image GH04 Tripod System Reviews

Built like a tank!

Very tall and solid tripod. Its maximum height is astonishing. Although it can reach impressive height without the use of its column, the gear to raise the column is very well made. If occasionally you need to shoot from high up, this is the way to go.

Lots of Value for Little Dollars

If you need an inexpensive tripod that will get you a high high shot, you should consider this one. The head is serviceable and not to be confused with a Sachtler fluid head, but the tripod is fairly strong and with the addition of the crank-up center post, is really just the ticket for those high lock-off wide shots you need when every other camera has someone blocking your shots. Good build quality and comes with the carry bag and the center weight basket.

Very good - get screw tightener key in accessories.

It's very good - and goes up to about 104 when on a tripod dolly. (Since the legs are closer together, you get more height than the rated amount, but even without that you get quite good height.) It's very solid. The center extender goes up quite a bit - maybe 2', and is very solid and smooth - you can't pull it up or down without turning handle, an it gives very smooth operation - good especially when raising or lowering during recording, such as to match the height of a speaker (which is more professional, so don't get angle. To that end, I would suggest a bubble-level in the head for leaning forward and backward; you want to know that it is perfectly level, and if you can't see the speaker properly, you raise or lower the center column.) There is no squeaking when turning the handle. One thing that would be nice is some assistance in raising it the tripod legs. Since sometimes you may want to raise while recording - or even when not, since it's quite a weight, it could be nice if there would be some 'click stops' which would hold it slightly - even if you still have to hold it, especially if you're not puling a leg-section out fully, which will sometimes be the case. So that would guide you that you have all three legs level, and you don't have to focus so carefully on the bubble when locking the legs. (To have some pneumatic pressure pushing up would be a luxury -- even if it doesn't actually lift it, but helps you out), but all-in-all it's great. It does weight quite a bit compared to a compact, but this is not something you're getting for a backpack. The head is set up in such away that it will not flop down or up; there is some tension to bring it back to level, and a lock to keep it pointing down or up. (The lock itself is a screw that can be adjusted, so you can still point it up or down even then.) The slide-off plate is very good, especially if you want to continue recording while taking it off or putting it on; most other tripods have a plate that has to be tilted to take off or on. You will need a coin or some screwdriver to tighten the screw of the plate into the camera. It is available in the accessories as a key-chain (looks somewhat like a beer bottle opener - and maybe it'll work for that as well!) I would personally suggest that it be included -- whether by the manufacturer or the store, as it is necessary equipment. (I guess they can't fit a handle into the screw -- even one that folds down, due to the flat nature of the slide-off head.) All in all it seems professional.

We use these at my church and they have been a true work horse. We often take these to film outside of church. The bag is very handy, easy to setup and smooth movement.

We sold our old Magnus tripods and dolly's for the E-Image tripods. The heads is a lot smoother then the Magnus and the locks don't loosen and slide like the Magnus. All my volunteers fight for this tripod. The DOLLY is 10 times better then the Magnus as well. The wheels are bigger and smoother to role on. I also recommend this dolly.

Amazing Fluid Head

The fluid head is AMAZING!! This is a professional grade tripod in terms of smoothness. Pan & Tilt are like floating or the head submerged in liquid motion. Only drawback is the feet have weird rubber 'feet' I suppose so the sharp metal doesn't dig into the floors. Problem is the feed often times lift up or angle up, so I gotta reach down to flick them back into position. Hard to explain, its annoying but a minor pet peeve.

There is often a slight odor of the case provided with the E-Image Studio Tripod with Geared Center Column and Fluid Head Kit from the factory, but if it is too strong, do air out the bag.

question

I have purchased this product and only used it 4 times. It is almost an outstanding product except for couple issues which makes it useless for video. In your advertisement it says With variable fluid drag on both pan and tilt, you can adjust the fluid head to suit your shooting style or the needs of the shot. Untrue there is only variable fluid drag adjustment on tilt and not on pan. To make matters worse upon purchasing the tripod in February the fluid drag was notably less than tilt even when tilt is set at the lowest setting. I have not used the tripod in months and I just used it again in the summer heat of about 85 degrees F and there is only a slight amount of pan fluid drag compared to tilt fluid drag a number of times more. The difference is so extreme it is useless for video since it is so easy by error to pan it you I try to tilt it. When I use long lenses such as 400mm and 1250mm I use a rubber band on the pan arm but it is impossible to gently tilt without it panning. Using the pan lock as a brake does not work. I went back to using my 10 year old Velbon leaking PH-368 tripod head and tripod of which results in much better video. I contacted B&H and it was beyond exchange time and they said to email the E-Image company for warranty. I emailed them and never heard back and sending a product to China for warranty I won't do to lack of recourse if I never get it back. So now the question is do you have a drawing break down for the fluid head to see if I can disassemble it to increase the fluid drag? Another issue though more minor is the counter balance spring is not preset to place the sliding plate mount level but rather it measures angled up at about 20 degrees. This can be corrected by sliding the camera plate all they way forward except if the lens and camera combination is too light with the plate all the way forward it still tilts upward. A very minor issue is the spring loaded hook fell off though it does not matter since I never used it anyway.

It is most unfortunate that you have had this negative experience. This is of course not what we at B&H wish for our customers.B&H can only offer is return or exchange on items purchased within 30 days. After that, we must suggest that you contact the manufacturer for we do not have repair facilities. You might try contacting ikan for they also handle the E-Image line of tripods.Email: [email protected]ikancorp.com or call (713)272-8822.

question

is it true that the legs of this tripod can hold up to 88 pounds?
Asked by: Anonymous
The GA752 legs can actually, technically, support more than 88 pounds. 88 is just the recommended payload, and what the legs are designed to hold while maintaining the most functionality and safety. We used our former product management supervisor as a gauge, and have confirmed that these legs can hold a small Asian man who weighs between 100-120 pounds without issue.
