Steadicam AERO 30 Overview

The Steadicam AERO 30 Stabilizer System with A-30 Arm & Gold Mount Battery Plate is an entry-level Steadicam option that includes the same Zephyr vest as the more advanced Steadicam systems, and it supports up to 20 lb loads similar to those systems. This AERO 30 bundle features the Zephyr vest, A-30 spring arm, telescoping carbon fiber post, and 7" monitor. It also includes a Gold mount battery plate for powering the monitor using an optional Gold mount battery. The battery plate functions as a counterweight while delivering power to the monitor over a mini-XLR cable, which is also supplied. The system also comes with a BNC video cable and eight 0.25 lb balancing weights.

The 7" monitor offers 3G-SDI and HDMI connections and has a high brightness of 1000 cd/m². The telescopic carbon fiber post consists of two sections and is adjustable from 22.5 to 35.5". The AERO 30 system can be set up and adjusted without any tools required to highly stabilize your footage as you walk, run, climb stairs, or otherwise follow your subject.

The Steadicam AERO 30 Stabilizer System is a full-on Steadicam system that is also a user-friendly choice for beginners. It supports up to 20 lb loads, and offers tool-free adjustment of the sled.

Included are a 7" HDMI/3G-SDI monitor with 1000 cd/m² brightness, an A-30 arm, Zephyr vest, BNC video cable, mini-XLR monitor cable, and eight 0.25 lb balancing weights. A two-section carbon fiber post is extendable from 22.5 to 35.5". V-Mount, Gold Mount, and DV battery mount options are available and sold separately from Steadicam.

Great option for half the price of Zephyr

We were in a toss up for a while whether to get the Zephyr for almost double the cost of this, and so glad we went with the AERO. For what were doing: flying the Alexa Mini with CN-E primes and flying Canon C300s most of the time, its perfect. Our Alexa Mini with 24mm Canon CN-E lens, Anton Bauer Cine 150 battery, Teradek 100, and Nucleus M follow focus is right at 18 pounds and feels great. overall very nice steadicam rig as expected. but some issues.... 1. provided right angel BNC connectors are junk! intermittent connection issues. better off with properly built right angle to straight SDI cable 2. design does not have a tilt up/down bubble level but only have right/left bubble level 3. screw locking the vertical and the lower horizontal arm of the sled is too short and pops out easily when removing the horizontal arm of the sled. a couple of millimeter longer screw would've solve this issue. 4. monitor does not have a built in horizon indicator 5. monitor needs a hard cover to protect it. no commercial readily available product offering. decided to 3D print my own.

It does the job, Tiffen makes you wait for the rebate

I won't lie but I couldn't help to feel a little bit disappointed by the build quality. I was very excited to receive something made by Tiffen as I have already several of their products and I am very happy with them. This one on the other hand is a meh... Everything except parts of the gimbal is plastic. I could find some surplus of glue coming out the edges of some parts too. For $5250, you are better placing that money into a Ronin or Movi or actually invest the 10k+ into a proper steadicam rig if you really want this Steadicam feel. Overall this product is completely OVERPRICED. You are buying because of that mail-in rebate? Be ready to wait a very long time for it. I am still waiting for mine and it's been over three months. I managed to talk to three different people there but no one seems to care. Great customer Service there (input sarcasm). I am also questioning the safety of the V-lock plate. I am unsure about this but I don't think this plate has a fuse in it (TBC). This caused the main board of my Atomos to fry, making it useless. Thankfully it was under warranty... If this is your first rig, it does the job fine for small shoots. If you are looking for something high quality to keep long term: stay away or invest into something else. The pros for me were a d-tap output and sdi-in on the top stage. The price compare to a Zephyr definitely makes it worth it even though it is ridiculously marked-up for the built quality you actually get.

The Post size on the Areo models is as follows- 1/2" Basic Docking Bracket = Standard with AERO-15 1/2" Deluxe Docking Bracket = Standard with AERO-30
