The Glidecam iGlide II Handheld Camera Stabilizer is a larger, more robust version of the original iGlide, supporting cameras up to 3 pounds. When properly aligned, the iGlide II isolates unwanted operator arm movements from the camera, allowing smooth, fluid handheld movements. Attach your DSLR or other small camera to the mounting plate via its 1/4" holes, then balance it by adjusting the camera plate, base platform weights, and camera platform weights. With practice, the offset gimbal handgrip allows you to pan, tilt, and boom freely without producing bouncing or jerky movements.

Would this work well with the Sony a6500 w/ Zeiss 16-70mm? I've gathered that the above setup is about 1.7lbs, but I'm wondering if there would be a difference in performance in comparison to the HD or XR. Thanks
If you camera and lens combination is below 3 pound capacity of this stabilizer, they should work very well on it. The HD and XR models allow for heavier set ups, which means you can use them with larger cameras or heavier lenses. However performance wise if balanced properly they all do the same job.

Does it also work well with phones? Imagine a metal RetiCAM mount with a normal to large phone size.
This gimbal is designed to work with smaller mirrorless cameras. However if you have a mount like the one you mentioned, the RetiCAM Smartphone Tripod Mount with XL Conversion Kit B&H # RECSTM01C, it should work as well. https://bhpho.to/2sPEq60
