Dracast LED1000 Plus Reviews

Solid working set of lights, some metal work is not great.

The light quality is pretty good and the temps and brightness are consistent from light to light. This includes when using batteries. Not a five star because the filter frames were all bent and a little too thin to fit the plastic filters. It was really difficult to get them together and each one had issues to varying degrees. For the price, you'd expect these to be a step above the cheap ones, but in that particular piece, they're terrible. The case is ok. It's literally just the plastic, no foam or anything else, so be prepared to do a little DIY work if you plan on shipping these with confidence after they've been unboxed.

Good but not bright enough

I do a lot of one man shoots with my Fs5ii. I bought this to be a key light for interviews, but in bright environments this light doesn't add much (I did buy the bi-color version). I even added soft box via Chimera 1x1 and bought separate diffusion screen to soften the light, so now I have that set up. I am going to try and use as a backlight or fill light, and I just bought an Apurture 120Dii to use as a key light. This light is good and sturdy and easy to move and setup, it just isn't bright enough.

Very little light output

Very disappointed. The Astra 6x will break on you, but if you don't mind sending it in for repairs you will get twice the output.

Light weight and Powerful`

This is a great light with the softbox attachment.  Very light weight and very powerful.  It has a great wrapping quality about it. When using a battery with it the draw has a consistent feel throughout the entire battery life.  My only complaint with this light is that it needs to come with either the barn doors or the soft box.   Softbox is definitely needed unless you like the look of the harsh led light.

Awesome and Versatile Light

Super easy to use. A full charged v mount will last a good bit of time. If you are looking for a ton of light I would advise going for the daylight balanced. The bicolor are about half the output at most color temperatures.

Excellent LED light for a good price

This is a well-constructed dimmable light fixture with an excellent light output. The yoke is also well-constructed and features a handy 2-way stud receptacle. I say it's handy because I had to use the horizontal opening to attach to the light stand - this was because the soft-box attachment needed to be clear of the yoke - impossible to do when the light was mounted vertically. The only downside was the very high color temperature. You need gels or plastic sheets to correct the CT. Mine are on backorder so I was stuck on an interview shoot that needed 2700K.

It lasted a year...

Bought two of these 5/2019...one of them has now crapped out 7/2020. I've put up with a lot from Dracast in the name of inexpensive lighting instruments, but for this LED panel to stop working with the small amount of hours it has on it is unacceptable.

Fragile and inaccurate control knobs

By Joe

I liked this light at first, but I quickly realized how fragile the control knobs are. There is no way to safely store the light in the case that it comes in because the terribly fragile knobs jut out. I've sent this light to be repaired several times because of that. Also, it's very difficult to hone in on any desired color temperature or brightness because the knobs aren't very accurate.

question

The Pictures show this product with the barndoors, but in description or in the box section do not say anything about the barndoors being included. Are they included or need to purchase separately?
Asked by: John
When I ordered my lights they were part of a package deal, including the barn doors, grid and softbox for each light. They fit well and the lights haven't overheated using them. I did order a set of 5 Dracast hard gels.

Can anyone tell me if they have used one of these ...

Can anyone tell me if they have used one of these successfully as a key light? I just do corporate interviews and talking heads. Also, if this would make a usable key light, what are folks using for diffusion?
Asked by: David
This light can be used as a key light, but overall conditions will affect your results. For diffusion, these work well https://bhpho.to/2YffQsz.

question

Does the Dracast LED 1000 Pro Daylight put out more foot candles when using the CTO correction for 3200K mode then the Bi-Color 1000 does when in 3200K mode?
Asked by: Anonymous
According to the manufacturer, the LED 1000 Pro Daylight LED Light would have more output with a CTO filter attached to it than the LED 1000 Pro Bi-Color LED Light when set for 3200 Kelvin.

question

Hi. I'm trying to decide between this, the Ikan 1024, or the Aputure LS 1c. The concern I have with this design and the Ikan is how the battery is mounted to the back of the light. Has anyone had issues with the yoke or using it up high or with a c-stand?
Asked by: Christopher
The power source/battery being separate from the light fixture is nice, but the same can be accomplished with a VariZoom S7101 4-Pin XLR to D-Tap Adapter Cable (<a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/379251-REG/VariZoom_S_7101_S7101_4_Pin_XLR_to.html target= _blank >http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/379251-REG/VariZoom_S_7101_S7101_4_Pin_XLR_to.html</a>) although the V-mount battery placement should not bump into the yoke, but it does add weight. Not a problem for a C stand. I have even used it on a boom pole with adequate sandbag weight. The Dracast is superior to the other LED square panels (CRI, light output, build quality), but like all of these types of 1 x 1 lights you will need diffusion or your talent will see spots and you will get multiple shadows. Chimera makes a great softbox for Dracast/Flolight 1 x 1 Chimera LED Lightbank although a little pricey (<a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/869328-REG/Chimera_1670_LED_Lightbank_for_Flolight.html target= _blank >http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/869328-REG/Chimera_1670_LED_Lightbank_for_Flolight.html</a>) and it will reduce the light output by about half, but makes for very pleasing light. Another advantage is that Dracast includes a free $200 battery, which is well worth it and helps to cover much of the cost of the softbox. However, the best light (size, weight, output, bi-color, focus-able, CRI, remote control via Bluetooth, etc.) would be the Kinotehnik Practilite 602 Smart LED Fresnel (<a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1208021-REG/kinotehnik_pract602_practilite_602_smart_led.html target= _blank >http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1208021-REG/kinotehnik_pract602_practilite_602_smart_led.html</a>), which is what I would recommend and I own both lights. 4 universal speed rings allow adding softboxes, but you really wont need them in most cases with this pleasing light. They give you a lot more control where the light is going unlike the Dracast and the Fresnel lens blends two or more lights together very well. I own 2 and when I can afford it. I will buy another one. I hope this helps.

question

Is the light output of this comparable to a traditional 1K Tungsten light?
Asked by: Jason
No. The output would be more comparable to a traditional 450 Watt tungsten light. // Also, if there are any other technical or product related questions, feel free to contact us directly at any time at [email protected].
