Designed for studio, DJ, and live sound applications, the Kopul HMX-2 Humbuster is a dual-channel hum eliminator with both XLR and 1/4" (6.35mm) TRS/TS input and output connectors. Using a fully passive design, without the need for external power, the device can eliminate unwanted 60 Hz hum and buzz caused by ground loops in your signal path.

Housed in a road-worthy rugged metal enclosure, the device can be inserted between any two pieces of line-level equipment at +4 dBu or -10 dBv to quiet hum and buzz caused by excessively long unbalanced cable runs, or when a connection path forms between the grounds of two pieces of equipment in the signal chain. Ground loops are removed while preserving the integrity of the original signal.

The device will automatically convert between balanced and unbalanced signals (and vice versa) when the 1/4" (6.35mm) TRS/TS and XLR connectors are used in any combination. This also allows the Humbuster to be used as a direct box for connecting the unbalanced output signal of a musical instrument directly to the balanced input of a mixing console. The design utilizes high-quality internal components and gold-plated XLR connectors to reduce noise and maintain the fidelity of your signal.

We had a disturbing 60 cycle hum from our main speakers at church. Connected this unit in line with each speaker and no more hum. That's about all I need to say. I works as advertised

When the package arrived the humbuster was out of its original packaging, and it also did not work to eliminate the hum. I will be returning this item. This item might work for someone else but it did not work for me.

Excellent so far

We've been using this at my church for the past couple weeks to get a stereo signal (two balanced outs) from our x32 mixer into our ATEM Mini HDMI switch for our webcast. The ATEM Mini is about 20 feet away from the mixer and I wanted to ensure it was a clean audio feed, but the ATEM Mini only has unbalanced stereo (or mic) inputs on 3.5mm TRS jacks. So far, this little humbuster has performed perfectly.

Didn’t work for me

I liked everything about this unit except for one specific thing. It did not work for me. I was trying to upgrade an old Radio Shack ground loop filter that I have had for about 40 years. The Radio Shack filter actually eliminates the 60 Hz buzz in my home stereo system even when it was cranked up to maximum volume with no music or audio playing. When I performed the exact same test with the Kopul Humbuster connected, it had a noticeably annoying buzz, even when the volume was only half way up. This unit may well do the job for you in whatever application your requirements call for. Unfortunately, it failed my test and therefore was returned for a refund. Good luck in your application of this unit.

I got this to quiet some hum feeding from my phone into my computer. Not only did it not work, it introduced so much noise I had to disconnect it immediately.

Life Saver. Ground loops Are Gone.

does quiet an active guitar

I play a Parker Fly Deluxe, which has active pick-ups, both electric and a piezo. The signal is very hot, and thus very noisy. So I got the Humbuster in hopes of quieting the guitar output. It simply did not work at all for this application. I don't blame the humbuster. I like the design and the construction is very solid. I will use it for other set-ups. It does not quiet a hot active guitar signal, but I think it is not intended for that (a passive guitar buzz is very different).

Works exactly as advertised

Installed in my studio to eliminate hum on a monitor and hum from mics in the booth. All completely gone. Couldn't be happier.

question

This says 60Hz, is there a model that will work in Pal 50Hz countries?
Asked by: Filmview
This is not a powered unit, it's completely passive and only connects to your audio feeds, so the frequency of your AC power is irrelevant. In my opinion the information about this unit should read "eliminates unwanted hum and buzz caused by ground loops".

question

Is there a version of this device that can eliminate hum generated by a turntable ( Pro-ject turntable connected via 2 heavy duty shielded RCA cables to a Denon AVR-X4200W integrated amp; I have tried a number of possible fixes to no avail). Or could this device be used for this purpose with some adaptation?
Asked by: Anonymous
B&H sells adapters and cables like GPR101 or CPR202 that will let you connect your turntable to the Humbuster to the amp. You may also consider picking up 3-to-2 prong grounding adapters to see if that works. There are some turntables that have inherent hum due to build quality or wiring. I hope you get to enjoy your vinyl again soon!
