The Impact VS-LCD400 400Ws Monolight 3 Point Kit was assembled by B&H to maximize creative choices with a single light source. The kit is built around three VS-LCD400 400Ws monolights that each ship with a grid reflector, 100W modeling lamp, flashtube, power cord and PC cord. The kit also includes 3 10' air-cushioned light stands, 3 white umbrellas with black backing, a Luxbanx Duo 26x26" softbox with speedring and a kit case to transport it all.

VS-LCD400 400Ws Monolight has touchpad controls and a digital readout that gives you power and modeling light status. The flash recycles to full power in 2 seconds and down to fractions of a second as you dial down the power across a 4-stop range. The VS-LCD400 has a Type-S accessory mount that accepts the included 7" grid reflector and the wide array of light shapers available from numerous manufacturers that have standardized on this mount.

The included umbrellas have a white interior and a removable black backing that thwarts light transmission. Removing the backing completely allows you to pump light through the umbrella like a makeshift softbox. Partially removing it allows some spill light to add to the ambient light level.

The Luxbanx Duo 26 x 26" Softbox is a light-softening tool for strobe, LED, and fluorescent lights. It's also useable with quartz lights up to 1,000W due to its heat-resistant interior. It features a reflective, high-output interior, removable inner baffle and front diffuser and accepts optional fabric grids. The included speedring has color coded sockets that match the Flex Rods in any shape Luxbanx softbox. The included three 10' lights stands are air-cushioned for smooth and safe height adjustment. The stands fold down to 34" to fit in the included kit bag along with the other items in the kit. The nylon bag has carry handled that convert to a shoulder strap.

Impact Digital Monolight 400W/s (120VAC)

You might be surprised at how many photo assignments you can handle with a compact, lightweight monolight like the Impact Digital Monolight 400W/s (120VAC). It's got 400w/s of power in an easily transportable package, and light output that can be varied in 1/10 stop stages over a 4-stop range, accessible through the digital readout.  The 150W modeling light can be coupled to the flash, getting brighter or dimmer to match the actual light output, or independently set to the level you want. The monolight accepts S-type monolight reflectors and head accessories. It also has a limited Auto Dump function, firing the strobe when you reset to a different power level (so the strobe is automatically set to the correct setting for the next flash). A built-in optical slave allows the monolight to be triggered using another flash. Perfect for portraits, small still-lifes, and much more.

Power is variable over a 4-stop range
Digital readout coupled with the power variator
Accepts S-type monolight reflectors and head accessories
Power is adjustable in 1/10 stop increments, from full to 1/8 power
Model light intensity may be coupled to, or independent from, the flash output levels
Limited Auto Dump feature automatically fires the strobe when you reset to a lower power level
Built-in optical slave "sees" the light from other flashes, and fires monolight automatically

Impact Air-Cushioned Light Stand (Black, 10')

This Impact Air-Cushioned Light Stand is a black anodized aluminum support that rises to a height of 10' and folds down to 33.5" for storage and transport. The stand will handle up to 8.5 lb and is topped with a 5/8" stud with 1/4"-20 threads. It has a wide footprint of 38" for greater stability. Air cushioning gently lowers the light when making height adjustments to protect equipment and fingers.

Air-Cushioned
Protects equipment and fingers from damage
Compact Design
Will fit easily into most location cases
Accepts Casters
For easy positioning of lights

Impact 45" Convertible Umbrella (White Satin with Removable Black Backing)

This is an Impact 45" Convertible umbrella with white satin and removable black backing. Umbrellas soften, broaden, and diminish the light output of any flash light source. Umbrellas with a white interior will soften and weaken light more than an umbrella with a silver lining. A white umbrella without a black backing may also be used as a makeshift softbox, although the use of the light will not be as efficient as with a softbox.

Choosing umbrella size is determined by the size of the subject, and the strength of the light supply being used. Choosing an umbrella surface is as subjective as choosing a paint and brush.

This size is perfect for a 1 - 2 person half-length portrait, or a 3x4 ft product setup.

Backing may be removed half way, providing a unique combination of light bounced from different surfaces.

Impact Luxbanx Duo Medium Square Softbox (26 x 26")

The Luxbanx Duo Medium Square Softbox from Impact is a versatile 26 x 26" light-shaping tool for strobe, LED, and fluorescent lights. It has a heat-resistant, textured-silver interior so you can use it with quartz lights up to 1000W. When using the Luxbanx Duo with strobes, attach the front diffuser and inner baffle for maximum softening of the output. When using it with hot lights, the inner baffle should be removed. Open face lights can be used as is, but it's recommended that you use the flood setting rather than spot on Fresnel sources. The softbox has four forward-opening vents to dissipate heat. Removing the front and inner diffuser essentially turns the Luxbanx Duo into a large reflector with maximum brightness and contrast.

For additional control, the versatile Luxbanx Duo has an optional fabric grid which mounts to the recessed lip of the softbox with touch-fasteners. The grid narrows and concentrates the light's beam forward, controlling spill light and adding directional control to the Luxbanx Duo's attributes. The ample surface area and square shape of the softbox make it ideal for large sets, groups, full length fashion, and large product work. Every Luxbanx comes with a carrying case and a spare Flex Rod. Separate purchase of a speed ring that accommodates your light's mount is required for use. Impact makes models to fit most popular brands.

Impact Speed Ring for Impact, Bowens S, Westcott & Aputure

The Speed Ring for Impact, Bowens S, Westcott & Aputure from Impact features indexed flex rod holes that allow you to effortlessly mount any square, rectangular, strip, or octagonal Luxbanx softbox to Impact, Bowens S, Westcott, and Aputure heads. The ring will also fit most other brands of softbox. The sturdy all-metal ring rotates 360 degrees to facilitate orientation or to clear obstacles in tight quarters. It has 3/8"-16 taps on two sides to allow mounting directly to grip gear such as Impact's Swivel Umbrella Adapter, 3 Section Double Articulated Arm, Super Clamp, and more.

Impact Light Kit Bag #2 (34 x 13.5 x 12")

The black Light Kit Bag #2 (34 x 13.5 x 12") from Impact makes transporting your lighting kit easy and secure. The bag is designed to hold three monolights along with their reflectors (such as Impact VC500LR), four stands, boom, umbrellas, cables and other support gear but can also be used to hold other lighting equipment instead. You'll have plenty of room to take along enough lighting gear for a portrait session - all packed in an organized and accessible way. A touch fastened divider tray separates the stands, boom and umbrellas from the lights preventing them from bumping together and causing scratches or damage. For additional smaller equipment such as cables and small accessories, there are three interior 10.5 x 8.0" zippered mesh pockets.

The bag is made from soft, padded water-resistant nylon and contains six movable touch fastened interior dividers (6 large, 2 small) that will permit you to configure the bag to accommodate the gear you need that day. The Light Kit Bag is carried by its two 2" wide overlapping top carry handles that can easily be extended into dual shoulder straps. The contents are accessed via dual zippers that when placed together will accept a user-supplied lock. For even more protection, the bottom of the bag contains three rubber feet for when the bag is placed on the ground. And the bag folds down to a quarter of its height for convenient storage and easy setup. Whether for storage or transport, the Impact Light Kit Bag will serve both pro or amateur well.

Impact VS-LCD400 Reviews

Great versatile light for the money

I have 4 of these with different diffuses, boxes, and other attachments. In slave mode, they sometimes misfire on lower flash settings, but flawless when paired with multiple Impact PowerSync 16 receivers.

Great for the first year...but that's it!

I purchased three of the Impact 400w Digital Monolights about a year ago after doing a lot of research. I only shoot a few times a month, so I thought these would be perfect. I was happy with my purchase at first, but then the problems started. One of monolights stopped triggering the other two light when I used theImpactPowerTrigger 16 Channel AC Transmitter and Receiver Set that came with the lighting kit I purchased. So, I simply marked that light with a NO so I wouldn't use it to fire the other two lights. Last month, however, one of the other lights started overheating after about 45 minutes into a shoot. When this happens, the LCD display goes blank and it stops firing. Now, two days ago, the bolt that locks the tilt on the third light no longer tightens (stripped?). I could understand if ONE of these three issues occurred over time if I were a full-time photographer. I'm not a full-time photographer, and ALL of these issues have occurred. I realize that these are budget lights, but I would have expected them to last a lot longer, especially since I don't use them very often.

This is the ONE

I did quite a bit of research and product comparisons. I was very pleased when my lighting kit arrived, set it up and got to test it out. I am sold on the Impact line of lighting and products, very high quality and designed friendly for use in the studio. The entire kit is all that I needed.

looks durable. The recycle time is 1-2 seconds. I had this at 5.5 strenght or probably 3/4 of max power and was able to get f8.0 with the camera and strobe 10 ft away from the subject. I was shooting with a 43 inch reflective umbrella. ISO was at 200 and shutter at 1/125 sec. Not as heavy as I though. LED controls in the back are a plus. Has a built in fan that you can hear. Good afforable and puts out plenty of light. I am trying to shoot a family portrait with this has my only light source.

Good to star with.

So far I have used this just a few times in a small studio setting. So far it performs as advertised and seems to be durable and dependable. That being said it has it's drawbacks. For example even on low power settings once the flash fires the whole unit, modeling light and all goes dim for a second or two. That also leads to the slow recycle time. When I saw 2 seconds I didn't think it would be to bad, but during that two seconds the modeling light is down as well. So you get a blinding burst of light then total darkness if you have a well closed off set. I have laughed it off for the most part because the shots have turned out great, you just need to be patient.

Nice power range

I'm using this for some corporate type portraits shooting through an umbrella. At ISO 100, I can change the power level to run from F4 to F16 easily. Very flexible. The only reason I took it down a star is because I've had some issues with it syncing with a pocket wizard. It's built in sensor works fine as long as I'm using another flash to trigger it. Seems like it works sometimes, but not others.

I've been using speedlights in my garage studio for a number of years and thought I would try monolights. I shopped around and decided on the Impact 400W/s. The 400W/s has a LCD display and a fan to keep it cool. The unit is a little larger than my 300W/s, but I'm getting used to the weight difference. Slave works great as well as the controls on the rear display. A great product for those who are getting into studio photography.

What is the fastest shutter speed I can use with this Monolight?
Asked by: Tommy
As the Impact One Monolight Kit (120VAC), B&H # IMVSLCD400K, is not a TTL flash with High-Speed Sync capabilities, the maximum shutter speed you may use will depend on the standard maximum flash sync speed used by your camera. With most focal-plane cameras, this will be 1/250 sec. If your camera/lens has an internal lens shutter, you may be able to use the flash at your lens' maximum shutter speed. Check with your camera's manufacturer for your camera model's standard maximum flash sync speed.

Would this kit work with a pocket wizard and speed light? Also are there battery packs for AC so that I can shoot on location?
Asked by: Henry F.
I have the mono light with softbox kit for work. It is a visual slave, so when my other personal speed light fires, it fires as well. It will not pick up directly to a pocket wizard or any other radio transmitter. It does have a sync cable, but it is flimsy and does not stay in the jack very well.

question

Does this kit include everything I will need to start shooting with my Nikon D610? Or will I need to buy accessories to make this kit compatible with my camera?
Asked by: joseph P.
The kit should work with your camera right out of the box. I had a problem with the built in slave units on the lights. I had to use a receiver on each of the lights which was an additional cost.
