Dracast LED500 Pro Daylight Overview

Featuring a Gold mount battery plate, the Pro Series LED500 Daylight LED Light Panel from Dracast is an ideal choice for the location or studio work where color accuracy, control, and flicker-free output are of major importance. The LED500's daylight-balanced output is well suited for outdoor work or color-matching HMI fixtures, while its high CRI of 96 renders colors with precision and fidelity. Dimming from 0 to 100% is conveniently done with a back-panel knob that adjusts the output with negligible color shift. The low electrical draw of just 30W means a timely return on your investment.

The durable anodized aluminum frame is supported by a sturdy, U-shaped yoke with locking knobs on each side and a standard 5/8" receiver. This compact 12 x 6" panel can be used worldwide thanks to its included 100 to 240 VAC power adapter. You can also use the onboard Gold mount battery plate with 14.8 VDC batteries when mains power is unavailable. Accessories include optional 4-way barndoors for contouring and control of the LED500's 45° beam angle. A carry case is included for convenient storage and portability.

Exactly as said in the description. This is only a 5200k LED with a brightness knob. Works great as a key light with a bounce to soften and spread the light evenly on your subject. It doesn’t reach far as I was hoping, but creates beautiful images, especially for interview style videos.

When I pulled this one out of the box, the kids were excited! And then I completely blinded them... in multiple temperature bandwidths! This one is nice!

Great lights, carry bag okay

I bought two of these lights and so far theyre great. They feel solid and from my experience the color temperature on them is identical. The carry bag they come with is not good however, my zippers are breaking after just a few uses and the pull ran for one of the zippers broke off the first time I pulled it. I would still purchase these again

Nice light, but battery accessories are pricey!

Portable, even lighting. But only comes with a battery *plate*, not a battery (which is commonly provided  with other small lights). Runs off AC as shipped. Be prepared to pay a *lot* for battery and charger.

I own 3 daylight units. Each of them ranges from 5150-5350K. None are 5600K. All have the same slight green tint, which doesn't really have to be corrected (a 1/8th minus green was too magenta).

The adjustment knobs have huge serrated teeth that require about 5 complete turns to adjust the light. I have never come across something so badly designed in 40 years of being a DP.

Can I use this light as a key light for interviews?

Yes, it will work for interviews, however, like most LED array lights the output falls off rapidly with distance due to the individual lenses on each of the LEDs. So you get a "sheet of light" as opposed to a beam. Barn doors are recommended due to the lateral spill, which could cause reflections you don't want. The accessory diffusers help soften the sometimes visible digital pattern, but reduce the light output even more.

No, the Dracast LED500 does not come with barn doors. It comes with Yoke, case, AD adapter and the specific one picked comes with a V mount battery plate.

Does the battery get charged from being on when the unit is using AC so then you can use it outdoors? I don't see any cable to hook to battery directly.

You have to charge the battery separately to use it remotely, it does not charge while on the light. You can use AC plugged directly into the unit for powered use however.

I see the barndoors for this, but not the gels made to fit. Aren't there gels mad to fit right into the barndoors?

I haven't come across gels specifically made for the Dracast Led500. B&H has a lot of gel packs, many are 12 by 12 which you can just cut in half and slide right into the barndoors. I went to a local photo store and bought gel sheets, very cheap, and just cut them to fit the frame. I also got an appropriate color gel to change the balance to tungsten.
