  • 1Description

  • 3CobraCrane 5055 Low Mode for SteadyTracker Extreme
  • 4CobraCrane SteadyTracker Carry Bag

The SteadyTracker Xtreme Bundle from CobraCrane includes the SteadyTracker Xtreme with quick-release camera plate and locking screw, camera mount screw, low-mode open-sided tilting cage, and a carry bag. SteadyTracker Xtreme eliminates shake, roll, and yaw during handheld shots by providing counter balance at the bottom. It also allows you to capture shots where the camera appears to float in the air. It is designed for use with DSLR cameras or camcorders weighing up to 8 lb. It is suitable for handheld, body supported, and self-supported applications.

SteadyTracker Xtreme is simple to set up and easy to maintain and operate. The camera is mounted on the included quick-release plate. SteadyTracker Xtreme allows you to capture shots while walking, running, travelling upstairs, or even shoot from a moving car. You can accelerate and decelerate when panning, quickly start/stop, reverse directions while flying, tilt smoothly at the start or end of a boom, or dutch off the axis during a flying move.

The low-mode tilting cage allows you to capture low to the ground shots. The side loading SteadyTracker carry bag houses and protects and the bundle components. It comes with three individual compartments that run the length of the bag. It is made of durable padded nylon canvas and features a carry handle and shoulder strap for easy carry during travel.

CobraCrane SteadyTracker Xtreme Reviews

Very steady

This is the steadiest solution I've tried. I just need to work on my biceps to be able to wield my 4+ pound camera plus the steadytracker. It's not a vest mounted steadycam, but for those of us who can't afford one, it gives great results.

Helpful tool for the price

I've used the SteadyTracker Xtreme with my Panasonic DVX100A for over two years in run-and-gun situations and it is a huge improvement over handheld. With practice and concentration, you can even get a similar floating effect as with the more expensive stabilizers, but not quite as consistently smooth. But the SteadyTracker has advantages over those more expensive products. You can pop it up in the air over folks' heads for a crane-type shot, you can set it down easily, there is very little arm strain, and set up and balancing is very quick and easy. I've done video for a week long youth camp and my camera never came off the SteadyTracker all week. The plate has a hard foam surface on top of the metal that is getting a bit warn. Right now it's more of a cosmetic thing than any functional problem (cosmetic to me, not the client - I only see it when I mount or remove the camera). For its price and practicality, this is a great tool. It may not be as steady as some of the more expensive units that are hard to set up and need routine re-balancing, but compared to handheld, it is a huge improvement. Also, for paid situations, it looks more professional than the many unprofessional looking $25 homemade contraptions you can learn to make on the web.

Heavy but steady

Gets heavy shooting race footage with a DSLR but otherwise, it does well.

This really works

Okay, it's not the ultimate stabilizer but it really works well in a variety of situations. I use a Canon XF300, it's a little over 6lbs, and I had great results on a recent trip traveling throughout Southwest Alaska's Inside Passage. We were always on the water and if you have ever tried to shoot on a boat you know what I mean. The SteadyTracker Xtreme never got too heavy as it was balanced perfectly with it's adjustments. Definitely worth the price and I highly recommend this product.

Great Production Tool

I've used the Steady Tracker Extreme with both my Sony EX1R and Z1U for about 5 years. At first glance it looks home made, nothing fancy. The best thing about the Steady Tracker is the lack of that gimbal ball balancing act the other tracking sticks have. To me they are like trying to balance a broom stick on the end of your nose. You are forever chasing your camera and rarely getting the shot you intended. With this piece of gear the balance and the direction are executed with your wrist. Pretty simple. Your arm and elbow dampen any vertical movement. So many people have assumed I'm shooting these cool shots with a full blown high end stabilization system. You can fly around from dutch to to having a perfectly flat and steady horizon within seconds. The negative reviews I've read astound me. This thing is so simple and works so well. I've tried them all in the last 30 years, NAB has huge collections similar items every year, nothing comes close to the great handling I get from the Steady Tracker. It does what it is supposed to do and is really quite inexpensive.

Center Of Gravity

Hello This is way cool. Go get a broom. Balance the broom stick in the air with 2 fingers. You have found the Center Of Gravity. When you put a camera on one end of a stick and then hold the stick at the center of gravity and walk around your shots will be smooth. Very steady. Brilliant design. Perfected.

Great product, Prefer over Glidecam

I use to create video walk through of real estate properties. SteadyTracker is much easier to balance than my Glidecam 2000. It is a bit heavier so need to get used to the weight.

I recently used this on a shoot this past weekend. It is a wonderful piece of equipment for independent filmmaking. It is easy to balance, not too heavy, and above all, inexpensive. You can walk, and even run with it. Highly recommended.

The description says “Optional static body mount (vest) mode.” Why would it say that if vests are not compatible?

I have a Canon 70D with an 18-135 mm lens and a Shure VP83 mic. The total weight is 3-1/2 pounds. Does anybody have experience using the UltraLite with equipment in the 3-1/2 to 4 lb range? I would prefer to get the UltraLite instead of the Extreme because it is half the weight (2lb vs. 4lb) and because the base looks a bit shorter front-to-back. However, I am concerned that the maximum recommended weight is 3lb and that the extra 1/2 to 1 pound of extra weight will impair my ability to get stable shots. Also, I have never used a stabilizer and I just started shooting video with a DSLR. Thanks.

The Xtreme is your best bet for maximum smoothness and flexibility. if you stay relaxed, shoot to edit and sit the tracker down with camera attached when you're not filming, you should get good results. I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark II w/assorted lenses and a small Canon M. and enjoy a little extra weight for even greater stabilization.
